Large paintings handled and manoeuvred via a staircase for a Parisian collector

Transexpo Île-de-France has been working for major Parisian art collectors for many years. These discerning clients know that they can count on Transexpo to move all their works, both in France and abroad. 

One of our loyal clients called on us to transport several large-scale paintings between his Paris residences. The works were transported from a château in the Paris region to this collector's main residence, a Grand Siècle mansion near Les Invalides in central Paris. 

As this was a short trip and the state of conservation of the works allowed it, simple padding was sufficient to pack these paintings. Our crate makers/packers are experts at packing works of art in simple or reinforced padding, but also at manufacturing all types of crates, including foam-lined crates that perfectly match the volume of the work. 

When transporting these masterpieces in Île-de-France, the complexity of the service lay in manoeuvring the works between the different levels of the buildings. The château and mansion are historical monuments that do not benefit from a large lift or freight elevator. Our teams had to move the paintings by hand, via the main staircase of the residence.

• Self-propelled cranes or lorries equipped with crane arms for handling monumental sculptures
• Via windows using a crane arm, aerial lift or furniture lift
• Through the opening of a staircase or lift, or through a skylight, using a scaffolding tower 
• Escalera/Pianoplan stair climbers or carried by hand up and down staircases

For this service, the simplest way to move the works was carrying them by hand on the staircases because the paintings transported were not too heavy or bulky.
