Airport Paris Roissy Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport

Our Transexpo Paris Nord agency is located near Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport.

This airport is crucial for the international transport of artworks to and from France.

Indeed, it serves as an air hub for both passenger traffic and international air freight.

The airport has three terminals:

  • Terminal 1 primarily accommodates international airlines of the Star Alliance (Lufthansa, United Airlines, etc.) as well as Qatar Airways and other international airlines.
  • Terminal 2 is the largest, hosting airlines from the Oneworld alliance (British Airways, Iberia, American Airlines, etc.) and the Skyteam alliance (Air France, KLM, Delta Airlines, etc.).
  • Terminal 3 mainly serves low-cost airlines.

Roissy CDG Airport handled over 76 million passengers in 2019 before the COVID pandemic.

Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport is designated with the IATA code: CDG and the ICAO code: LFPG.

For the international transport of artworks by air to or from France, logistics companies have two options:

  • Passenger flights, using low deck air containers such as AKE, AKH, DPE, DQF. However, these containers can only accommodate crates with a height of 120cm for European flights and 160cm for long-haul transcontinental flights.
  • Cargo flights using upper deck air containers like AMA, AMD, AMJ, or even on air pallets, which allow the transport of large artworks.

However, air freight is relatively underdeveloped in Paris, and for many international destinations, it is preferable to use cargo flights from Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Liège, or Frankfurt.
