International contemporary art fair Basel, Switzerland Art Basel
The international contemporary art fair Art Basel is one of the main gathering places for collectors and art enthusiasts from around the world.
Co-founded in 1970 by Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner, and Balz Hilt, three gallery owners from Basel, Art Basel quickly established itself as the leading contemporary art event in Switzerland and even worldwide.
Following the success of the Basel fair, similar events were launched in the United States in 2002 with the creation of Art Basel Miami and in China in 2013 with Art Basel Hong Kong.
Today, Art Basel attracts over 60,000 visitors during the week of the event. Numerous exhibitions are organized on this occasion in Basel's museums and galleries.
